Lawful basis and consent
The law lets you email a person only for a reason. The app records one of three for each contact, and blocks a send if anybody in the audience has none.
| Basis | When |
|---|---|
| Consent | They signed up or ticked a box to get your emails. |
| Soft opt-in | An existing customer, about similar products, who was offered an opt-out when you took their details (UK and EU). |
| Business address | A limited company or LLP address (UK). Sole traders and partnerships count as people. |
In the US, CAN-SPAM asks for a clear sender, a postal address and a working unsubscribe; every email has them. This is a summary, not legal advice.
